Kim’s Place is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a Forever Home through a unique Shared Living Arrangement. We move away from the traditional institutional model to create a community where stability is guaranteed, and every resident is a Shareholder.
In our home, the "us vs. them" barrier is removed.
The Household Pool: Residents and House Parents live as equals, pooling their resources to directly pay for the mortgage and shared utilities. There are no for-profit room and board fees.
Professional Care: State stipends are used exclusively to provide person-centered caregiving tailored to the specific needs of each individual.
We believe that a "Forever Home" should be a springboard into the community. Our non-profit status allows us to facilitate programs that help our shareholders grow, learn, and connect, and help our neighbors grow by offering community-based programs for all
Life Skills & Vocational Training: We offer internal programs focused on independent living skills, from household management to job readiness and volunteer placement.
Community Integration: We partner with local organizations to ensure our residents have access to social clubs, fitness centers, and cultural events.
Family Support Network: We provide resources and advocacy for the families and guardians of our shareholders, ensuring they remain a vital part of the home's ecosystem.
Quality of Life Enhancements: Using community donations, we fund specialized equipment and recreational trips that state stipends do not cover.
At Kim’s Place, our strength lies in our unique diversity. We celebrate the different backgrounds, abilities, and life stories of every person under our roof.
We believe respect is the foundation of a home.
Pronoun Preferences: We honor and utilize the preferred pronouns and names of all resident shareholders and staff.
Inclusive Environment: We foster a safe, supportive space where every individual is empowered to express their authentic identity. Your name, your pronouns, and your history are respected here.
At Kim’s Place, we understand that many individuals and families have navigated complex journeys before arriving at our doors. We are committed to a Trauma-Informed Approach in everything we do. This means we move away from asking "What is wrong with you?" and instead ask, "What have you experienced, and how can we support you?"
Safety First: We prioritize physical and emotional safety. By ensuring our residents are Shareholders with a voice in their home, we create a sense of control and predictability that is essential for healing.
Trustworthiness & Transparency: Trauma-informed care requires honesty. Our open-ledger policy and clear communication regarding household finances ensure that there are no "hidden surprises" for our residents or their families.
Empowerment and Choice: We recognize that trauma can often strip away a person's sense of agency. In our Shared Living Arrangement, every resident has a choice in their daily life, their care plan, and the development of their Forever Home.
Compassionate Support: Our House Parents and staff are trained to recognize the signs of past trauma. We respond with empathy and specialized community support programs rather than institutionalized discipline.
Permanence: We are a Forever Home.
Accountability: Our ledgers are open; residents and parents are shareholders.
Inclusion: We celebrate all identities and abilities.
Advocacy: We support our residents in achieving their personal goals through our community programs.
Kim's Place is more than a residence; it is a community built on equity and respect. Whether you are looking for a home or looking to support one, we invite you to join us.
