At Kim's Place, we do more than provide a roof over your head—we cultivate a supportive community where you can find stability, hope, and a clear path forward. We know how vital a safe, nurturing environment is to your peace of mind, which is why our entire program is designed with your well-being in mind.
We believe that true healing comes with a sense of pride and belonging. Kim’s Place operates as a community cooperative, meaning this isn't a traditional landlord situation—it’s a shared household. Every resident has a stake, a voice, and a piece of ownership in how our building runs.
To keep living costs as low as possible and protect your financial independence, we share the journey:
Divided, Shared Expenses: Instead of paying traditional profit-driven rent and board, residents contribute an equal, divided share of actual household operational expenses (like utilities and shared building supplies).
Protecting 100% of Your SSI: Because we operate as a true cooperative shared-expense household, you are paying your fair share of actual living costs. This specific structure is designed to fully protect your Social Security Income (SSI) from unfair reductions, leaving the rest of your funds entirely yours to save and manage.
Grant & Donation Backing: Our organization works tirelessly behind the scenes to secure grants and donations to cover major structural building costs. This keeps your shared monthly household expenses remarkably low, giving you maximum room to build your personal savings.
Eating well is a core part of wellness, and our cooperative model extends right into the kitchen:
Independent SNAP Benefits: Residents at Kim's Place participate in a "purchase and prepare separately" food model. This allows you to apply for, maintain, and utilize your own independent Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/Food Stamps) benefits based on your individual needs.
Cooperative Kitchen Support: While residents manage their personal nutritional choices and food benefits independently, our program utilizes community donations to stock shared pantry staples and support communal kitchen resources, ensuring no one ever goes hungry.
By sharing the responsibilities and the successes of the household, we don't just build a place to live—we build a family. Here, you have real ownership over your space, your finances, and your future.
